Diabetes and Obesity
Clinical Academic Group
Sydney Health Partners and the University of Sydney are globally recognized leaders for delivering health outcomes for people with diabetes and obesity, across the life-course, through enabling high quality multidisciplinary research, fostering collaborations, increasing the capacity and capabilities of clinician researchers, and improving competitiveness and impact in research translation.
Obesity/overweight affect >80% of those with type 2 diabetes and ~50% of adults with type 1 diabetes. Obesity is the main modifiable risk factor for the progression to type 2 diabetes and is most prevalent in youth onset type 2 diabetes. In developed nations, adverse social determinants of health factors are overrepresented in both diabetes and obesity.
