This Clinical Academic Group (CAG) focuses on improving health service delivery for all patients having surgery, aiming to provide patient-focused, equitable, and value-based care. By translating perioperative research into clinical practice, we aim to facilitate patient-focused, equitable, and value-based surgical care.

As a unique multispecialty collaboration, our CAG reflects the diverse and multidisciplinary nature of perioperative care. We benefit from the commitment of the partner Local Health Districts' Academic Surgery Centres and leverage the diversity of our perioperative network to translate research findings into practice. Our activities aim to develop multispecialty skills at all levels of clinical practice, fostering a collaborative and diverse perioperative workforce.

Objectives

Our CAG prioritises research on preventative care and wellness, implementing evidence-based models to prevent adverse surgical outcomes in at-risk patient populations, especially those who are older, have disabilities, mental health issues, are First Nations people, or from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds. By incorporating innovative solutions from technology and big data analytics, our research aims to improve care markers such as hospital length of stay, hospital-acquired complications, and patient-reported outcomes following major surgery.
