Emergency Care

Emergency departments care for more than 9 million Australians each year and are experiencing increasing pressure from rising demand, hospital overcrowding, access block, ambulance delays, workforce shortages, and growing patient complexity. These challenges affect patient outcomes, staff wellbeing, and health system performance.

The Emergency Care CAG aims to develop, evaluate, and implement evidence-based solutions to these challenges. Through collaborative research and strong partnerships across healthcare services, universities, and consumer groups, we aim to improve emergency care delivery and support sustainable health system improvement.

Led by an experienced interdisciplinary team of clinician-researchers, the group has a strong track record of delivering research that informs policy, practice, education, and service redesign. We are committed to building research capacity within the emergency care workforce and supporting the translation of research findings into routine clinical practice.

The Emergency Care CAG aims to:

• Support research that addresses priority challenges in emergency care.
• Support the translation and implementation of evidence into practice across metropolitan, regional, rural, and remote settings.
• Build emergency care research capability through mentorship, collaboration, education, and workforce development.
• Influence policy and practice by generating evidence that improves the safety, quality, and efficiency of emergency care.
