PRECISE project – Resource portal launched

The PRECISE (Practitioner Readiness, Education and Capabilities, with Implementation Science Evaluation) Genomics Research Project, brings together expertise in genomics, education, and implementation science for a truly collaborative effort to revolutionise precision medicine in primary healthcare.

Click the link below to access the resource portal, hosted by Medcast, to view the resources co-designed by geneticists, genetic counsellors and GPs, with the care of genomic health consumers as the first priority.

ACI Guidelines for Multidisciplinary specialty care with genetic services involvement

Genetic testing is becoming more common in areas like paediatrics, cancer and heart disease, with many tests covered by Medicare. These tests often need input from clinical genetics, and MDT meetings can help with both the genetic advice and to bring that expertise into routine care.

Milestones

  • MRFF funded PRECISE project (led by CAG co-chair Dr Alan Ma), engaging with primary care practitioners and consumers to co-design genomic education and resources and build capacity for genomics (2024-2027)
  • Evaluating the role of the genomic multidisciplinary team to support genomic mainstreaming, improve collaboration, and build capacity in non-genetic clinicians. This has led to an ACI guideline on genomic MDT approaches as well as uptake of this approach from South Australia, Monash (Vic) and Queensland genomics services

What’s next

  • Continued collaboration with the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group on the development of a cardiac genetics model of care to facilitate mainstreaming, including the involvement of the Agency for Clinical Innovation to build a statewide pathway for implementation
  • Exploring consumer needs in genomic healthcare, informed by the findings of previous CAG projects. We are planning to engage with our consumer collaborators and partners to improve the patient journey in genomics through advocacy, education, and further CAG activities in this space.
