Scale-up in Implementation Science

The evidence-practice gap can only be closed if evidence-based interventions and models of care are implemented at scale across health systems. But scaling-up complex health interventions to large populations is a challenging task. Sydney Health Partners’ Senior Advisor, Professor Andrew Milat, will describe current methods, frameworks and tools used to scale-up health interventions.

Key Takeaways

  • Understand what scaling up means and why it is critical for improving health outcomes
  • How to assess whether an intervention is ready to be scaled
  • Why effects often reduce when interventions are delivered at scale
  • How research approaches change as interventions move to scale
  • What enables successful large‑scale system change
