aisn banner

Join us for the 2026 Implementation Science Symposium, presented by the Academic Implementation Science Network (AISN) and Sydney Health Partners Implementation Science Academy.

We are excited to welcome keynote speakers, Prof. Byron Powell (University of Washington) and A/Prof. Justin Presseau (Ottawa Hospital Research Institute), who will share insights into how implementation strategies can be designed to produce sustained change in real-world health and social service settings.

You will also hear from AISN members undertaking impactful implementation research who will be presenting their work at the upcoming Implementation Science Health Conference Australia (ISHCA) and the Health Services Research Conference with support from the AISN. The event will conclude with presentations and a panel discussion on implementation strategies for individual and organisational change.

This is a valuable opportunity to connect with academic and clinical colleagues, exchange ideas, and shape the future of implementation and research translation in Sydney.

The program is followed by a light lunch and networking, concluding at 12pm.

Confirmed Speakers

Byron Powell

Professor Byron Powell – Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU).

Byron’s research aims to improve health and social services by advancing the science of implementation. His scholarship has contributed to advances in the development, specification, tailoring, and evaluation of implementation strategies, as well as methods for studying implementation processes, mechanisms, and outcomes. Through international and interdisciplinary collaborations, he has contributed to the growth of the field of implementation science and its application across diverse health and social service systems.

Justin Presseau

Associate Professor Justin Presseau – Director and Senior Scientist, Methodological and Implementation Research, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute; and Associate Professor, School of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa (Canada).

Justin’s research program sits at the intersection of behavioural and implementation science, supporting the health and well-being of patients, the public, and the health providers who care for them. His work spans methods from evidence synthesis to multi-method intervention development to randomized trials and process evaluations of practice change interventions. His research interests focus particularly on developing and evaluating theory-based behaviour change interventions and in understanding the role of habit/automatic behaviour and competing behaviours in the process of behaviour change.
