Published date:
The leadership meeting focused on establishing governance, defining membership and priorities, and discussing ways to strengthen consumer engagement.
The group is led by co-chairs Associate Professor Shilpi Ajwani and Associate Professor Bradley Christianand a multidisciplinary leadership team spanning local health districts, research groups and a consumer representative.
Associate Professor Bradley Christian said the new Oral Health Clinical Academic Group (CAG) provides “a much‑needed platform to connect expertise and accelerate research translation”.
Oral diseases are widespread and tied to chronic conditions, yet evidence-based care isn’t making it into everyday practice—and coordinated action has been limited.

Through collaboration and a strong focus on implementation science, the Oral Health CAG aims to address this gap to improve oral health outcomes and ensure evidence-based care is delivered more consistently.
The Oral Health CAG plans to work with members over the coming months to map existing evidence and activities and identify priority areas for action. It will also seek to initiate implementation focused projects aligned with its three strategic pillars:
- integrating oral health into broader health pathways
- improving outcomes for priority populations
- leveraging digital health to enhance triage, referral and workforce support.
Our focus now is building our membership base and partnering with them to define priorities and drive meaningful, coordinated action in oral health.
